Frequently Asked Questions
about Keystone Meadows Assisted Living

What is Assisted Living?

Assisted living is for senior adults who need help with certain activities of daily living (ADLs). Many seniors don’t require the intensive care found in a nursing home but could benefit from having help with medication management, bathing, dressing, bowel and bladder management, and memory reassurances. You can still be independent; however, you may need some additional assistance to remain that way.

What are activities of daily living (ADLs)?

Commonly known as ADLs, these are the daily tasks such as bathing, dressing, personal grooming (combing hair, brushing teeth…) that we do each day. As we get older we sometimes need assistance with one or more of these ADLs.

Who lives at Keystone Meadows Assisted Living Residence?

While each resident’s situation is different, and ages and situations vary greatly, many of our residents are either single or widowed and their eighties. Some have memory loss and/or need help with bathing, dressing, or with medication administration. Currently, more than a million Americans live in an estimated 20,000 assisted living residences. This number is growing each year. Assisted living residences provide an environment that gives support and security while allowing independence and dignity for a happy, healthy retirement.

Is Keystone Meadows a licensed establishment?

Keystone Meadows has been licensed by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) as an assisted living establishment since January 2002. IDPH performs annual on-site reviews. Keystone Meadows exceeds the IDPH annual assisted living training requirements, including fire and disaster preparedness. The personnel of Keystone Meadows receive a minimum of 8 hours of assisted living training per year.

When is the best time to move to Keystone Meadows?

We often hear the words, “Keystone Meadows is a beautiful place…but I’m not ready yet.” A decision to move is always a complicated one. However, it is best to make the decision to move when you have the ability and moving is an easier option. Do not allow yourself to get into a position where making a move is not a choice, but rather a situation forced upon you by a life-changing event or decline in your health. It is best to take a proactive approach. By signing up for the Priority Wait List, you can make an informed decision and move according to a schedule that you control. The sooner you move to Keystone Meadows, the sooner you can enjoy the benefits of assisted living. In many situations, the choice of moving to Keystone Meadows has prolonged the independence of our residents.

“I wish I would have moved sooner…” are words echoed many times after residents have moved in. Make the choice now!

How much does it cost to live at Keystone Meadows?

At Keystone Meadows, the monthly fee varies depending on the style of suite and the level of care needed. The monthly fee is all-inclusive (meals, housekeeping and linen services, nursing services, activities and recreation, and all utilities except telephone). Our monthly fees are significantly less than the cost of home health services and nursing home care. For specific prices, contact the Community Relations Director or Executive Director.

Who pays the bill?

Residents or their families generally pay the monthly service fee from their own financial resources. Depending on the nature of an individual’s health insurance program or long-term care insurance policy, fees may be reimbursed. Medicare does not pay for assisted living services.
